A Couple of Milestones & Some Insulation

So, this marks the 100th blog posting for our New House site along with a year ago today that the footing forms were begun. I've enclosed a picture of the house foundation excavation which shows the state of the project 365 days ago!

Our hard working crew from Insolex were here on the Easter long weekend to complete the insulation for the house, so we're now nice and cozy there and ready to head to the next stage: flooring.

House at Lock-Up

We have finally achieved the milestone of having the house at the "lock-up" stage. All doors and windows in, a layer of building paper separating us from the elements, and as of yesterday, the heat turned on. The insulation bats were delivered today and the installation crew arrives tomorrow.

5th Wheel Gone!

A momentous day yesterday as our home for the first 4 1/2 months here was towed away leaving us with lots more driveway and a view of the overall building(s).

Spray Foam Insulation

Last Thursday, Scott from Insolex Insulation arrived with a very heavy & hi-tech trailer that set-up to spray foam insulation on the dining room ceiling which is directly under the master bedroom balcony. According to the building code any ceiling under a deck like this should be insulated with a solid foam material rather than the usual fibreglass batt insulation.

Got Heights?

I'm happy that today I've completed all of the building paper and rainscreen batten application so the up-high work is done and I can "rest" for a few days working at ground level. At least this experience has given some ideas for applying the siding which include:

1) Renting a lift bucket that will save having to climb up all of my scaffold-mounted contraptions.

2) Paying someone else to do it!

Our hot tub is finally up and running, and being enjoyed immensely after days of scaffold work and door sanding

Cobble Hill Sweat Shop

Taking advantage of a visit from Karen's Mum & Dad, Barb & Ron, we now have all of our office curtains sewn, metal window flashing ready for installation and garden tractor running smoothly! On top of all of the work, they then took us out for fish & chips! Hope they visit again real soon!
