Shop Floor II

With the tiles glued in place the last step was to roll on a coat of sealer then three coats of water-based floor finish.  Finally we rolled the benches and machinery back in place.  It's now very easy to sweep-up, nicer on the legs and back and we haven't blunted a mitre or a chisel since it was installed!

Shop Floor I

All along our plan has been to put some kind of wooden floor in the shop.  Up until now, everytime a piece of wood or a tool falls off the bench we lose the point of a mitre or the edge on a chisel.  After costing a few options we decided to put down a layer of 3/8" particle board sheets directly on the concrete then cover that with 5/8" thick particle board tiles.  The other consideration was the trench that runs up the middle of the shop to house the dust collection ducting and electrical wiring. We began with the idea that one full width of tile would be made as removable covers to access the trench then the remaining tiles could be spaced out towards the outer walls from there.
